Lebron: The New Kanye

Posted by and1grad on November 30, 2010

On September 13, 2009, during the MTV VMAs, Kanye West jumped on stage, interrupting Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech. He proceeded to tell the crowd, and essentially the world, that Beyonce should have won. He ended this drunken ramble (brown liquor STAYS causing bad decisions) with the now famous Kanye Shrug, grabbed his lady, and drunkenly left the event. This comedy of errors, while hilarious, brought Kanye a tsunami of negative media attention…dwarfing that of entertainers that were being accused of actual crimes or other more harmful acts. I mean…you woulda thought the guy was OJ Simpson. Read the rest of this entry »

Quotables — Whitlock on race

Posted by and1grad on July 12, 2010

An EXCELLENT and entirely TOO real quote on how we discuss race, from Whitlock’s article on Jesse Jackson’s comments re: Gilbert/Lebron
————————
“Jackson and other African-Americans need to follow LeBron’s lead. We look foolish. We look hypocritical. We come across like people who have little genuine interest in seeing racial prejudice disappear and more like people who just want it to swing in our favor.” — Jason Whitlock

Who belongs in “The King’s Court?”

Posted by and1grad on May 19, 2010

In my opinion, every great player has had another great player with him that helped him win a championship. The quintessential examples include Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant. Those are the probably the best duos of all time in the NBA. They certainly sit in the pantheon.

Building on my last blog, The Lebron-A-Thon, I think Lebron HAS to be considering this with respect to his future and legacy. The question is, WHO would make the best “Robin” to his “Batman?” Here are the contenders: Yao Ming, Joe Johnson, Amare Stoudamire, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, or Dirk Nowitzki. Lets examine “The King’s Court.”

The LeBron-A-Thon

Posted by and1grad on May 18, 2010

With the recent, unceremonious, removal of Lebron James from this year’s playoffs, the speculation of his next move has reached a fevered pitch. Its to the point where its either going to completely overshadow the rest of the playoffs, or at least be on par with it. A lot of punditry has been given, and consumed, in regards to just what “The King” should do this off-season. From what I’ve been hearing, there seems to be 4 teams that are really in the running: Chicago, Cleveland, New Jersey, and New York. There has been a little bit of discussion about Miami but it doesn’t seem like most consider that a serious option.
